Heard the one about a Storytelling Quilt..........

Our Manchester Celebration of IWD @ The Monastery is an interactive day with twin themes of storytelling and many small parts coming together to create something much bigger.

The IWD Storytelling Quilt is one of the great ways to do both. It's an opportunity for you to get your creative juices going. We want you to bring along a piece of material that is of personal significance to you and to tell us the story why.

When you arrive on the day you be invited to hand your piece of material into our Textile & Quilting Expert Lisa Watson. Lisa is working with a group of MMU Embroidery Students to construct the quilt throughout the day so that at the end of the day we will have a unique and beautiful quilt that holds all our stories together.

When you hand your piece of material to the team they will invite you to share your story. We're hoping this will be captured on video and/or radio to form part of the wider story of the day.

You can also join in the embroidery bee if you want to add a little something to your own piece. It’s a good opportunity to sit down for a bit of chat with others.

We're hoping that the action might be broadcast via webcam for the world to watch it grow. So if you know of colleagues who can’t make it, we hope to have more info nearer the time about how they can get a taste of the day.

Now here’s the technical bit – The piece of material should be10cm x 5cm and should be cut straight; lined up with the warp and weft. Please do not cut it diagonally, whilst this is good for dresses its not good for quilts.

So get thinking about that piece of material and what it says about you! I bet you can’t wait to hear each others stories.

Please feel free to start sharing your material stories on LinkedIn at the IWD Group or at least a bit about the material you think you want to bring!

Manchester Celebration of International Women’s day - Monday 8 March 2010 at The Monastery

‘The day is one of innovation, interaction and inspiration.
Forget sitting back listening to a string of speakers, this is about
getting involved and getting back what you put into the day.’

The morning will focus on self development with workshops and an additional menu of activities throughout the building. In the afternoon discussion groups will explore how we can benefit others locally, nationally and internationally. The groups will cover topical areas of interest and will be driven by the participants on the day. There will of course also be plenty of opportunities to network during what will be a rewarding and enjoyable day.  All activities are optional.

Tickets are now available from the Institute of Directors full ticket price is £47 plus vat, for groups of 5 or more a special price of £42 plus vat is available. Ticket price includes tea & coffee, buffet lunch, all workshops, discussion groups & group exercise.
Once you've purchased your ticket you will qualify to join the Manchester IWD Group on LinkedIn, members of which will receive regular updates and have the opportunity to have their profile included in our participant’s handbook.

The handbook will be issued to all participants on the day.  This is a one-off opportunity to appear in the handbook as there will be no additional print runs after the event.

So buy your ticket now to ensure your profile is included in the participant’s handbook.
