"Why did we do that?" Kyle asked Finley? "I don't know Papa. I'll think about it and tell you in the morning."
Happy Hallowe'en Pumkin by Opa Jay
You might be wondering what was behind Kyle's question. It was #healthandsafety ?! Lifting the lid to blow out the candle could have resulted at the very least, in a singed fringe for our wee grandson. Instead a straw was used to blow it out through the gaps cut for teeth and thus a potential burn avoided. What was interesting was Finley's response. I don't know. I'll think about it.
Sleep on it!
Often in business we feel obliged to respond immediately. In the super-high-speed world we live in, more is expected in less time. Perhaps learn from a child who understands the old adage and take time to consider your options. "Close your eyes and dream up the solution," is Kyle's mantra. Couple that to positive self-belief and you are on to a winner.
Respect your sleep sleep time rather than recklessly curtailing it. "To dream anything that you want to dream, that is the beauty of the human mind. To do anything that you want to do, that is the strength of the human will. To trust yourself, to test your limits, that is the courage to succeed." Bernard Edmonds.
German research scientists assigned volunteers a mathematical puzzle consisting of a string of eight numbers. They provided the subjects with two rules by which to generate a second string of numerals. In addition, a shortcut, which the researchers did not share, could be used to arrive at the target answer. After initial training, some participants were allowed to get a good night's sleep while others remained awake. Eight hours later, those who had slept were twice as likely to find the shortcut as were those who had not. Members of a second group that trained in the morning and attempted the problem again later that day were also slower at finding the shortcut, suggesting that tiredness was not a factor for the poor performances.
Incidentally, Finley did talk over his thinking and as you might expect, he was spot on.
