Talk Confidence - Just a Bucket of Sand

Eilidh Milnes

According to my site analytics, the last newsletter was very popular. A number of you suggested books. Thank you. I have already added two to my recommended reading list - particular thanks to Gerrit Bantjes, who called me for coaching and Bernard O'Brien who mailed with:  "A great and easy book to read is WINK by Roger Hamilton. I give this book away to most of my new clients and the feedback is always positive. If you ever travel by train, say from Manchester to London, and want a quick read that you can complete on the journey this has to be it. Beware though you will find yourself going back to it over and over..."

What a great idea! Do you ever give books to clients? Like Bernard, I often give clients reads I have enjoyed. Until now, my next step was to offer them my book list. Today I am going one step further. To make life easier for readers, I have created Eilidh's Amazon Affiliate web page. With one click you can select the books you need and take advantage of the suberb service and prices guaranteed by Amazon plus see the books suggested by Gerrit and Bernard. There is also a page dedicated to some gadgets and gizmos as recommended by Jay. Keep checking back as these site are work in progress :)

At the turn of the millennium, I was not so confident with matters IT and perhaps you feel this way even today. I certainly never saw me having the skill or confidence to create my own web pages or fix HTML code! At that time, Kyle our highly skilled and computer literate son lived at home. He encouraged me with this analogy: "Remember when I was a small boy and we went to the beach mum? I could destroy a pristine clear beach with my footprints in a matter of seconds. Well, with older operating systems you could do some serious damage to our computer data in a similar fashion, but nowadays with the latest software programmes the most you could do is knock over a bucket of sand. So go and play on the big beautiful beach of IT. Be confident that you really can't do anything that I can't fix!"

If you have a confidence issue, take heart from Kyle's encouraging words. Believe me I was so frightened I could hardly switch on (or off) the computer, as I was convinced that I was going to break it or irretrievably damage files.... yet look at me now! I will never be a programming expert - do I want to be -  but I can do a lot more than I ever dreamed possible nine years ago! And of course, when I need help I take advice from knowledgeable IT gurus such as KyleChris Davidson my mastermind colleague and Kate Spratley, who designed my website. Send to a Friend Have I made mistakes? Too many to mention! Does this bother me? Not in the slightest. Recently, Kate taught me a site technique called 'Rollback' - it basically deletes my errors! How clever is that?

Look forward to hearing from you with your news and favourite book titles to share with other Talk Confidence subscribers.

Remember if I can help you in any way - just holler!

And if you make an error just 'Rollback' laugh at yourself and don't take life so seriously all you can do is knock over a bucket of sand.
