I had this email in from Jackie Cameron http://www.consultcameron.com/
"I would like to recommend "The One Thing You Need to Know...about great managing, great leading and sustained individual success" by Marcus Buckingham, who is most famous for his Strengthsfinder books.
The basis of Strengthsfinder is simple - find out what you do best and do more of it. As a coach clients often come to me because they want to find a way to "improve" in an area of their life that they are neither good at or quite frankly interested in, so I recommend Buckingham's books for that reason. The "One Thing You Need to Know.." comes late on in the book and when it does it is so simple I found myself wondering why I had not realised this before but that is the "strength" of the book - it puts what you probably already know into some sort of order to lead you there."

And of the strength of Jackie's words I have added it to my shop: http://www.eilidhmilnes.com/AmazonShopping

Happy reading ... and do tell us about a book that has made a big impact on you. Thank you.

The book Self-Deception - Thinking out of the Box has made a huge impact on me. I have bought copies to give to my team players. We all know the book very well and it makes our communications very much more effective. Well worth a read!

The Anatomy of Peace - Resolving the Heart of Conflict is a joy to read. It has made a noticeable difference and improvement in a family relationship with a teenage son.
It has been a great help and I only wish I had read it years ago!
I strongly recommend it to anyone dealing with challenging behaviour - teenagers in particular.

On Gill's recommendation I am off to buy "The Anatomy of Peace" now - fancy - a doctor promoting an anatomy book!
For nine years I was the senior external trainer for Cheshire Constabulary and delivered hundreds of talk in schools on dealing with conflict, handling difficult people and situations. Like Gill says, wish I had known of the book years ago.

Off to my Amazon affiliate shop to order it now.

Words from the book author read:

"The Anatomy of Peace is an exploration of war, wherever it is found, and peace, wherever it is hoped for—in our personal relationships, our workplaces, our communities, or the world. The Anatomy of Peace shows how we can be freed from the fears, resentments, and conflicts that hold us captive."

I have enjoyed reading a book that Molly Harvey, the Soul Woman, recommended to me. It is "Zero Limits" by Joe Vitale - if you truly believe tomorrow is not yet written then you also have to believe that everything that has gone before has no future impact.
This might sound heavy but in simple terms love yourself first then the world will look after you!
Enjoy!

It was very interesting listening to Karen McCormick expand on her leadership style. Karen is the ex-CEO of the Cheshire Building Society.
She talked about the importance of creating "followship" within an organisation and made reference to her time on the senior management team at Sainsbury's. John Sainsbury created "followship" within his organisation and staff teams in Karen's opinion.
She went on to say that she was not a big reader of leadership books, "I do not really read about business/leadership very much - I talk to people a lot and have been fortunate enough to meet many of our renowned influencers and thinkers. My thoughts are my own - I question all theory. I am not afraid to seek the reality and apply it. I question most propositions too, just to understand the thought behind them it ends up being a style of operating! Sometimes I do mention Charles Handy when I talk."

So I am off to add Handy to the Amazon shopping site for you now.

Gosh what a busy week this has been...
At PSA - Professional Speakers' Association - on Tuesday, Steve Head was the guest speaker. He was talking about focusing on what works. You have to chose what to do and then surround yourself with people who can help you.

He was enthusing over a book called "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell.
Off now to add it to the shop for you to take a look...

Belly Dancing for Beginners by Liz Byerski is on the surface a light hearted novel - ideal for holiday reading. It is fun and about much more than the title implies. It is a warm and comforting read to boost confidence and low spirits.
