Apparently teenagers are incapable of having a normal conversation and communicate with a series of grunts and shoulder shrugs. This new post is to prove people wrong. Under instruction from Eilidh to make a new topic I have decided to show your average teenager is capable of discussing current affairs and morality issues in the news. It takes about 40 minutes to get from where I live to Eilidh's and in that journey everything is discussed. Todays topics ranged from the appalling treatment of the countries elderly, disabled and the recent story in the news of the family who claimed benefits because they were 'too fat to work'. The treatment of the elderly is something the country should be ashamed of as the old have taught us what we know and the fact that they are left for 5 days without being fed, develop horrific bed sores as they have not been aloud to move around and are left in their own filth is enough to bring tears to anyones eyes. These people are peoples parents and grandparents and are treated worse than someone's dog and little is being done to improve the situation. The Daily Mail's campaign dignity for the elderly sheds life on a small selection of the more serious cases but it is still going on. As the future generation I hope that the treatment of the elderly will improve and I personally will do all I can to stop it happening to any member of my family and I hope you will do the same for yours. Hopefully I have made my point and have made you think...

We are very much in agreement with the topic posted above, we feel that there is alot of good done by the youth of today. This goes agaisnt the  view that all teenagers  just moan and grunt at every opertunity instead of comminuicatiting  affectively.  We feel that the media are to blame for this negitive spin placed on young people, as stories are never reported about the good that has been done by teenagers. For example, A member of our school community, has reecently been elected for to lead Cheshire's Youth Parliament, his clear communication skills has enabled him to succeed and enabled him to gain a County wide proflie amongst young people.

Thank you for the opportunity to take part in this discussion forum and to hear our views. It was lovely to meet you last friday and we both feel had we have gained alot from reading through the forums.

It is little wonder that I love working in schools! Thank you for taking time to post your comments Coolkids. I have replied by email to you as well Finn so please check that I have landed in your junk mail - you may need to add me to your contacts.
The Youth Parliament is an excellent voice for young people and it is encouraging heart-warming to see how you support your fellow pupil.
How do you feel about standing up and speaking in public? I run a course called "Finding your Voice" and am rather hoping to deliver it in Eaton Bank. If so, I'll make sure I meet up with you again.
Please keep calling by the forum and adding CoolKids comments.

HOT PRESS! JUST IN FROM MONKEY KINGDOM...
Dear Eilidh,
You may remember speaking to a colleague in the past, regarding a series for BBC Three that urged parents to come forward and nominate their demanding kids. It would be so appreciated if you are able to have another think if any customers of yours might fit the bill. Any parent that is struggling with their demanding teen could benefit from this exciting project.

We are once again looking for 16-26 year olds to take part in a TV series for BBC Three that focuses on the lifestyle choices of children who would love a taste of their parents success but are perhaps too dependent on them right now.

Eight young adults will live together for a month in January in London, and will come face to face with a series of tasks designed to give them both life and work experience. It's a great opportunity to set your kids free and hope they change their ways in the process.

DO YOU HAVE A CHILD AGED 16-26?

DO YOU GIVE THEM EVERYTHING THEY WANT NO MATTER WHAT THE PRICE?

DO THEY THINK ‘HOUSEWORK’ IS A DIRTY WORD? DO THEY THINK 'WORK' IS A DIRTY WORD?

WOULD YOU LIKE TO THEM TO GROW UP?

Do you believe your child would seriously struggle without you? Do they live at home with no desire to leave? Do you think it’s high-time they grew up and learnt what the real world is all about?

If you want to find out if they can cope without you, please get in touch.

To nominate your child, or someone you know, please email Neil at neilr@monkeykingdom.com OR call 020 7749 3123

My demanding teen (Tween) could definitely benefit from the skills training that will no doubt be part and parcel of this BBC3 show - a psychologist too most likely.
He is just too laid back (did I nearly say lazy?) to bother applying... we can nominate anonymously?
I doubt it somehow... so now I have something else to nag him to do!

In the week that the the news is full of the dreadful torture perpetrated by the Edlington brothers in Doncaster, it is so good to listen to the words of young Laura. It has renewed my faith in young people.
We need more good news like this.

Today I was speaking to 160 year 12 students at Helsby High School. What super students! They were a joy to work with... The topic? "How to Make a Powerhouse Presentation!" The talk was also full of ideas and tips to make interviews fun and effective.
My key objective? To give the students a competitive advantage.

One of the other presenters, Caroline was from Connexions http://www.connexions-direct.com/index.cfm?go=Careers Caroline said this site was worth checking out:
http://www.notgoingtouni.co.uk/
What do you think? Does this site offer good information that you find useful?

We'd love to read your opinion....

Brief note on the notgoingtouni website is that personally I feel it is a website trying to do too much at once. If you want to look at all your options its good, but once you have decided on your preferred option I would advise going onto the specified website for that choice e.g looking at the YINI (year in industry) website if you want to investigate that route.

On another note Eilidh has just put up advice on interview preparation specifically aimed at students. I know i'm going to have to scrape some cash together before uni and to fund the social scene over the summer, so interview tips are definitely going to be a big help there.

Hi Eilidh,
I was the ginger guy at the front and I'd just like to say that I thought your talk was great! I consider myself quite good in situations like those you were talking about, and I was pretty pleased when a lot of my tricks came up as yours, but also pleasently suprised at the little things like the name tag positioning etc. that I hadn't thought of at all.

All in all it was one of the better talks I've sat through in my short time!

Could you attach that checklist to an e-mail please as well.

Regards,
Matt

Hello,

You recently gave a talk on confidence speaking at Helsby High School, and i found it very beneficial and an eye opener.

I know the basics on how to give a good impression when in an interview. However, your talk really opened my eyes!
I realise that there is much to learn in order for me to give the best impression that i possibly can - especially when i will be going to interviews for university at the beginning of next year, where there is lots of competition and i am eager to learn important skills now.

If you could email me tips on how to give a good interview, as you mentioned in your talk then i would very much appreciate it. It will come in very handy and it is always good to be prepared, and your talk definitely gave me more confidence on how to handle those kinds of situations so thanks again!

According to an article in the Daily Mail Saturday, June 19th schools are hiring life coaches for children as young as seven...

Read the article here:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1287779/Schools-calling-life-coaches-pupils-aged-just-seven.html

My initial reactions to this headline was, "So young?" "Why?" "What are their parents doing?"

The article goes on to explain how the coaches have been dealing with personal problems such as bullying, lack of confidence, worries to do with weight and self image.
I am looking to volunteer to mentor two year 11 students in Staffordshire colleges. And my inital reaction was that 16/17 is an appropriate age... however, after reading this article I wonder if I should review my policies?
  1. What do you think?
  2. Would you use a coach?
  3. If so, for what reason/s?

Hey mama, only just picked up your email. You asked, "Can you give me 2/3 sentences... perhaps one of reflection of your time at the school and what it did for you?"

Just having a think!

Was quite a while ago now, think year 9 was when i had a few people being bullies..? can't remember, however ...

It wasn't always easy, pressures with exams and general peer pressure were always present, but looking back nearly 6 years ago it was all just practice for everything that comes in the future!
Half of my time in school has been re-played in adult form! If you learn to deal with "stress" (not that i ever did or do that!) and the different people at that age, it's a breeze later on!
Surrounding yourself with genuine friends - the ones that will stick by you through thick and thin - was my trick. Laughter, quality time with friends and support from them will see you through anything! Jess and i had our differences but that was just us growing and forming our own personalitities.
Don't take the world on your shoulders, learn to prioritise what is actually important - not everything has to be dealt with right now.
Family - you guys played a massive part in helping me through school.. famous dinners round the table... talking to adults helped put a realistic spin on things... you kept me cool headed!!
Since i've travelled i've noticed more that your schooling is massive - employers here will give someone a job here based solely on their school credentials!
Granted, there are more private schools here with big reputations but Sandbach Girls would be up there with them. So don't waste the opportunity thats given to you purely by attending the school.
Don't be afraid to be yourself. So much pressure on girls to be 'the holywood hero' ... it's not all its cracked up to be. Don't waste your time on trying to be someone else or fit into a role that isn't right for you. I tried to please others and do what 'everyone else' did but if i had chosen to pursue them and not me, i wouldn't have my life in Oz now!!
Have a school-life balance but at the end of the day you have to knuckle down and get school done and dusted - life will wait for you! Plenty of time for all the partying and socialite malarky afterwards. That's what all the teachers used to say, i thought they were just boring and old fashioned but at 22 years old i realise there were absolutely right!

Sandbach High was challenging at times but it was also great fun and holds some of the fondest memories of growing up and making friends. It has given me the opportunity to travel the world and when i think about that, well what else could give you more life experience than that!!

Hope that's what you were wanting?! bit of a snip-it of what i valued at school and how i see it years later :)
Enjoy speaking at Sandbach High School tomorrow, mum. I know you will.
Cat xx

There's more than one way of speaking out and communicating confidently.
Take for example Charlotte Samuel aka Chyaz, who has been dubbed the beauty guru. Chyaz has one 1M page views in YouTube and 5,000 plus subscribers. Charlotte is just 19 and posts almost daily as punkchyaz.
Check her out here:http://www.youtube.com/user/punkchyaz
And better still vote for her in the competition Simple Star (details on YouTube)
You could even enter the competition yourself or nominate a friend.

Ever heard of Christian Owens? He is a 16 year old school boy from Corby... and he has used the internet to turn over his first £1M.
Yes there seems to be a theme going on here today, young people maxing out the internet.
Christian was inspired by Mac chief executive, Steve Jobs and then using his ingenuity and hard work Christian created his MacBundleBox to turnover his first £1/2M!
He uses MySpace to promote his services - more use of the internet to create review and interest.
Read more about Christian and his goals for the future: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1302771/Christian-Owens-schoolboy-entrepreneur-making-million-16.html
